WHY Quality early child care and education for children birth through age four prepares children to learn, grow and succeed, as 90 percent of brain development happens during that time. Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, Louisiana lacked affordable, quality early care and education, limiting children’s access to learning experiences and preventing parents and caregivers from fully contributing to the workforce. If unaddressed, the child care shortage has the potential to cost Louisiana’s economy over one billion dollars a year. Early Ed Month will provide an opportunity to refocus on the importance of establishing an educational foundation and fostering the success of Louisiana’s youngest children.
